Conversational models of artificial intelligence and academic publishing: ethical considerations from a common good perspective
Keywords:
large language models, peer review, academic publishing ethics, plagiarismAbstract
The emergence of Large Language Models, a sib-variant of generative artificial intelligence, has brought multiple challenges to society in general. This article presents some of the specific particularities of Large Language Models and the impact that the use of these tools can have on the academic writing of scientific articles and the evaluation of them in the peer-review academic publication systems. Scientific research and its results (articles) are considered from the perspective of Nebel´s (2018) common goods theory and with this theoretical framework some ethical recommendations related to the use of Large Language Models tools in the different processes of production and editing of academic articles in the peer review system are proposed.
